Post Partum Depression Very Common

You may be surprised to learn that over 20% of new mothers struggle with post-partum depression. It is not unusual to feel alternating depression and happiness right after the birth of your child. However, when that lasts beyond one or two weeks, there may be reason for concern. Symptoms are similar to those of depression but may also include irrational feelings of guilt, unworthiness and fear about caring properly for your baby. If your symptoms are severe or persist longer than a few weeks, psychotherapy and working with your physician can really help. Dr. Firestein has worked extensively with women struggling with post-partum depression following births, still births and miscarriages. You don’t need to suffer alone. Help is available.
